Consequences of Lying
2003-02-24 - 8:52 p.m.

“Basically, it can be assumed that most everyone is dishonest.” Said Marcia sincerely.

This sounded off kilter to Jorge, who had always fancied himself an eminently honest fellow.

“Do you think I’m honest?” asked Jorge.

“No more than anyone else.” Said Marcia cynically.

“But Marcia,” protested Jorge, “I have never lied to you, not even about the smallest thing. I am worthy of your trust!”

Marcia snorted her derision.

“I trust no one, Jorge. It is nothing personal.”

Jorge’s face began flushing. At first he looked mortified, but his mortification quickly melted away into a mask of rage.

“I would never lie to you!” he shouted, his voice sounding near the edge of sanity.

Marcia giggled darkly. She had hardly expected such a reaction.

“Marcia,” said Jorge, “I love you, but you must believe that I will never allow an untruth to pass my lips!” His face was red, hands shaking.

Marcia just laughed.

“Sometimes, Marcia, I want to kill you.”

Marcia spun around, triumphant.

“That is a lie!” she said, “I caught you in a lie!”

So Jorge killed her.
