Friends Friends are there to make you feel good until they decide it’s a good time to kick the chair out from under you. At that point, “at the end of your rope” means something entirely different. If there was no one else there, there’d be no one to pull the trigger or flip the switch except you, and you’d never do that now, would you? Well, of course not. None of us would. None of us would have reason to, without a little help from our friends. Sure, they love you, at least right now, but just wait until something comes up. They’ll scatter like so much chaff, borne away on the winds of other friends, other places, and other priorities. Friends don’t make you happy, at least not for long. Who needs them? You’re fine on your own. |
