Man and Wife
2003-11-17 - 7:29 p.m.

Here comes the bride, all dressed in white. Her fanfare is playing. She’s the star of the show. I can hardly stand to look at her.

The groom is standing at the end of the aisle, looking at this girl with damp eyes and a quivering chin, like she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Ten to one says he joins the ranks of the miserably married within twelve.

Oh, and the families, acting like they really like each other. Wait till it comes time to battle it out for Christmas. I’m sure we’ll see the love shining in their eyes then.

(Here comes the bride)

Here come the memories. Me pushing her on a swing, us laughing on the park bench

(All dressed in white)

Her telling me she loves me, I’m agreeing

(Do you swear to love and cherish)

There she is crying, I’m acting all tough

(Until death do you part)

She doesn’t know why, let’s stay together

(I do)

Walking away, acting like I don’t care

(And do you take this woman)

Opening the invitation to her wedding

(I do)

Dropping it on the bed and crying until I can’t

(I now pronounce you)

Smiling at the bride

(Man and Wife)

Tasting her lips

(You may now kiss the bride)

And It's over. Do I have regrets?

I do.
